Schools in Manchester seem to be coming down pretty hard on their students who are not following the required dress code these days. My daughter got sent back from her school, Walkden High because of her shoes. They were just plain black pumps with a tiny bit of heel - obviously not tiny enough for the school code!
I have noticed that many other parents have had similar problems lately too. Near about 200 children have been sent back from Walkden High for not meeting the dress code requirements.
The Head teacher Elaine Hilton has also sent a letter outlining Walkden High's approach towards the school uniform along with a copy of the school's policy on personal appearance standards to all parents.
To sum it up, if your kid goes to Walkden High, you might want to take a look at their wardrobe. For the most part, just ensure that they wear their blazers and tie at all times and avoid any kind of jewelery, or expect them home for lunch!
